Matty Whelan Racing is a Road Racing team based in Barnsley,South Yorkshire and founded in 2014. Since 2014 we have 1 championship title under our belt and a 4th position in our first year on a 600cc motorcycle.
We are currently running as a very close team built up from a bunch of freinds and family working closely in partnership with Bennetts Motorcycles in Barnsley running one of there own MV Agusta F3 675. Currently backed by Barnsley's largest private hire taxi firm Blueline Taxi's who have continued there support after many years of helping Matty.
This year will be our biggest challenge yet and the main aim is to hit that top step again as we know that is where we belong!
I am open minded, hard working and very enthusiastic about riding my motorcycle as hard as I can. I am meticulous at race meetings and after the events to make sure the tools and equipment I have are up to the standard that MV Agusta would expect. My head technician is workshop foreman for the top MV dealer in the UK, and a close personal friend.Working alongside Matt I will have another excellent mechanic who has been working in the British GT4 championship who also has a degree in motorsport who wanted to make the switch to help the team out as I am good personal freind with him also. I believe this cements a close knit relationship within our team with whom are all young and have the desire to win races.

2015 Rookie year in the MRO; 29 out 31 races entered won and subsequently crowned champion (400cc Yamaha)
2016 Rookie year in Thundersports 600; In total I had 14 podium finishes which included 5 wins. After a first race finish of 18th at Brands Hatch at the opening round, this shows a huge learning curve and increase in potential from round to round.
2017 Matty moved up into the premier 600cc class outside the British Superbike paddock. The first round saw Matty take his maiden podium in the first race finishing 3rd place first time in the class. Unfortunately the rest of the year was not to be after a freak accident at Cadwell Park colliding with debris causing a fractured femur and patella. In November 2017 saw Matty get back on the bike in Cartagena in Spain finding the passion and desire he had before. The trip was very successful and made his decision for the forthcoming season.
Ultimately myself and the team have a target of moving up to the British National Superstock 600 class running alongside the British Superbike Championship.
Our intentions within the year will be to create a stir riding one of very few MV Agusta's in the British Series. As this will be our first ever year in this championship a realistic goal would be to have top 15 finishes and by the last few rounds getting top 10 finishes.
As we are riding one of the only Italian bikes on the Superstock 600 grid getting top 10 finishes would give both us and our sponsors excellent coverage on 'British Eurosport' (sometimes live coverage) and also infront of an average of 20,000 fans trackside. We had excellant coverage in 2016 due to being the only MV agusta and subsequently the increase in pace and results.
