ROUND 1 Race Report-
We'll just got round to doing the report this weekend which has been a blast! The team had spoken before the round and said we would be really happy to get top 20 in the results and a finish in the race!
Would like to say before this a massive thankyou to Brad Mellor at OnPar health for getting me back to 100% fitness and was very happy how well my leg and body worked throughout the weekend.
FP1- the track conditions were horrific to say the least freezing conditions and drenched track and first time out on Pirelli wets was very daunting to say the least... all I wanted to do was get an eye for the track and get round unscaved. I finished the session P18 and felt reasonably comfortable on the bike and had got some wet data!
FP2- track conditions improved slightly and had areas of a dry line but 80% of the track sodden. We made some changes to make the bike turn a little more and more front end feel instead of all the feel in the rear! Ended the session P16.
Qualifying- this was our first dry time on the track although old hairpin still very moist I knew that I had the bike pretty much working in the dry... late on in the session i realised that I was still lacking front end feel after changing the geometry to get more rear end feel. But last lap I managed to get my head down and string a lap together leaving me P14 on the grid for the race!
THE RACE- Sat on the grid with my mechanics and I was very nervous but all I can say is how much fun I had out there and it was the first time since the accident that I really felt at home on the bike and smiling! At one point in the race I was running P12 but learning how to race with these lads was abit airy at moments but nonetheless so much fun just need to get more aggressive a small mistake towards the end of the race ended up leaving me p14 in the points and I finished the race without any incidents.
Would just like to say a massive thankyou to my 2 mechanics Dan & Matt who gave 100% all weekend and never stopped!
Also from Russell Owen Mission Racing who gave me a good prep talk on the grid to get me fired up for the race and also all his advice and help over the weekend!
